People can see that earth is dying before a scary pandemic appeared. And they are not doing anything about it. Mother Earth lies on her deathbed because of ungrateful humans. And we are careless enough to waste her gifts.
The pandemic is a wake-up call to humans and an aid to the healing of our sick nature, giving hope to our future. “Amelioration” paradoxically shows how our environment is getting better due to the pandemic. Mother earth is in sweet slumber while protected from human’s undoing and blooms in her own time, at her own pace.
Sandy’s entry to DENR’s KalikARTsan Competition, with the theme:
“Protect Nature, Sustain Our Future”
Sometimes even if we see what is wrong, we ignore it and continue with our lives. As though nothing is happening around us. We do not want to admit that we know it’s not right, instead we ignite and add to the flames of what our fellow men are doing. In fear of judgement and criticism, in fear of being left out, in fear of gossip for being different.
I hope that this pandemic has opened the world’s eyes and hearts to the reality that nature will always collect what is due, what is rightfully hers, and that nature will always heal one way or another, even at the cost of our lives. You may not be here to witness its rebirth, but the future generation will surely have a new beginning to which we hope they learn from our mistakes and protect it with all their might.
