You Know You’re Grown Up When

How do you know that you are a grown-up?

I picked up a piece of paper for an activity in Speech Communication (first meeting with ma’am Kat) and that question was what I got. I had double thoughts on whether I will swap it with a new one or not but I did not. It seems too interesting to put it aside.

So how do you know that you are grown-up?

For me, you don’t really know. It just comes to you as though it were there a long time. I mean, somehow, somewhere, somewhat, somewhen? (if that is even a word?) you just realize that wow, you’re already a grown-up.

But maybe you know that you’re a grown-up when you are mature enough to decide for yourself. When you know your priorities and you know how to make a to-do list. Of course, 11 year-olds could do a To-Do List better than other adults but then, age does not matter when we’re talking about “grown-ups”. Decision-making and prioritizing are key.

You know you’re a grown-up (or you suddenly realize it) when you can share your ideas and wisdom to the world, freely and compassionately. There’s nothing like it. When you’re there, with whatever method you are using, but you are sharing something good, something that the whole world could use for their individual or social lives, then you definitely are, a grown-up.

You know you’re a grown-up when you have a job you love and a job that does not make you think like you’re just a dot in the rat race. Cause kids could earn money, and kids could have a job, in our generation today. But when you, young or old, have landed your dream job, or one of those dream jobs you have on your list, then you’re one step ahead into being a grown-up. Cause no grown-up would stick to a job that would degrade one’s life, or at least that is what I think.

I think you know you’re a grown-up when you’re making a change, be it big or small, whether conscious or unconsciously. The list would go on and on with this woman who has a lot to say and think so am gonna stop there.

Now, I wanna ask you, how do you know you’re a grown-up? Is it when you’re old enough to drink? Or is it when you’re old enough to have tattoos on your body? Or, is it when you can travel on your own and do things on your own? What’s your version of being a grown-up?
